Have had it with Comcast for MANY reasons. Looking at Direct tv. Can I record a show while watching live tv? thanks!
yes you can. You can record one and watch another, you can record two while watching one of the ones you are recording, you can record two while you are gone, or you can watch one recorded one while you record two. You can pause live tv, turn on the tv at the end of a show and rewind to the beginning (so long as the tuner has been on that channel the whole time). I've never had a recorder other than DirecTV, so I don't know how it compares to others. There may be some out there that are better. What mine does not do currently is allow shows recorded on one recording box to be watched on another tv. I need to enquire about this, because I know Dish has the capability. Perhaps Directv has it now too.

We went through this back in 2003 and changed to Direct TV/HD and never looked back.
You can record two shows at same time like we do at night because DD works early. You need to watch one when recording two. What I do at night is record both shows DD wants but watch something I already recorded earlier at same time. Many times I will record the SF Giants game then while recording two channels at night watch the game.

We have Direct Tv and like it better than Dish. The PVR allows you to record any show at any time. It even records 2 shows at the same time.
If you use me as a referal to Direct TV, you will recieve $100.00 and so will I.
I would be happy to refer any Tuger to Direct TV.

If you have a High-Def DVR, then when you add a second Hi-Def box, and it doesn't have to be a DVR, you can watch your recorded items on any TV which has a Hi-Def Box. If you add a second Hi-Def DVR, the same thing applies, PLUS, on each DVR the list of recorded shows from *both* DVRs is integrated. You can see ALL shows recorded, watch all shows recorded, and even delete them after they are watched.
In addition, if you have the DVR attached to a computer network, you can watch On Demand items. There are over 1,000 of these, many of them at no charge (newer movies still have a charge).
I love it, and if we are allowed to have referrals, I can give them too

Thanks everyone! I now have to decide on the DVR to use "house-wide" on all tv's or just on one tv as we do now. The price is not much different but I am trying to do this really cheaply and too much technology will be a bad thing for us- we aren't that good at it! Just not sure we will use the DVR on all units in our home. Blondie

Fern, we have high def tv's and high def boxes on all our tvs, but unless all the tv's are wired together somehow, you cannot watch programmed shows on other tvs. You must have your set up that way. Directv does not come that way automatically.
